ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My paintings are all about the feelings for me! I am inspired by the outdoors; trees, birds, flowers and all other aspects of being in nature. After my daily walks, I often go straight to my studio to work on capturing the feelings that I had while looking at the beauty I have seen that day. I carry images in my mind until I am able to express them in my paintings. In my work, I am often exploring the relationship and contrast between color and light that has created this picture in my mind. Another important aspect of my work is texture. I use a variety of ways to create texture and depth in my paintings which has become an important part of my artistic style.

My strong emotional connection to nature drives my desire to express those feelings in my artwork. My goal is to allow my viewers to not just see the beauty, but to feel the beauty. Sometimes that is a mood that is present in a landscape or and attitude seen in the face of an animal. Sometimes it is all about the gestural nature of a tree or dynamic color of group of flowers. They all evoke feelings in me and so I paint to share that with you.
